From April 17th to May 17th, an exciting atmosphere prevailed in the Student Council of the BA School of Business and Finance (BASP) as the Board elections for the 2024/2025 academic year took place.
Elīza Betija Ruskule, the BASP Chairman for the 2023/2024 academic year, on BASP revival and cooperation:
The 2023/2024 academic year was much more active and purposeful than we had planned. BASP fulfilled all the set goals for this academic year, and we have already set new ones for the next one. We are excited to say that BASP was reborn this year. This can be seen both in the transformation of the 309th cabinet, in the new structure of the BASP Board, in the increase in the quality of events, and in the very active involvement in the Latvian Student Union.
This is only a small part of the large amount of work done, but the academic year is not over yet. BASP still has important elections ahead, in which we will elect student representatives to the Ethics Commission and the Academic Arbitration Court. Of course, the biggest event of the summer awaits the students – the Sports Games.
As the Chairwoman of BASP, I can say that this year BASP was reborn in the academic environment as well. Students’ opinions about the academic and ethical environment are collected with the help of a questionnaire, and students are reminded of the importance of study course evaluation questionnaires. Together with the new Chairman Emīls I am ready to engage in the consolidation process with the University of Latvia and represent the interests of students of BA School of Business and Finance there as well.
The next academic year will be even more productive and impressive because the new BASP team is ambitious. This academic year, one of BASP’s values is “Ambition” and it is ambition that motivates us to be better.
I wish the BASP board of the 2024/2025 academic year ambitious plans, creativity and energy to realize them!
The new heads of departments, chairman, and vice-chairman of BASP for the next academic year were determined in the elections held on May 17th, which took place in a hybrid format – in-person and remotely via the MS Teams platform.
Congratulations to the new board members, whose term will begin on July 1, 2024.

Emīls Matīss Egle, the BASP Chairman for the 2024/2025 academic year, shares his impressions about the new position, the journey, and the future goals of BASP:
The position of chairman means not only the responsibility and trust that you have shown me, but also the opportunity to continue building the BA School of Business and Finance even stronger, friendlier, and more active.
My participation in BASP so far has been full of experiences and challenges. I have worked with many talented and committed people, and I am confident that our new team will continue to provide an environment where young activists can have the opportunity to show themselves as a strong member of BASBF. Our goals in the next academic year are to strengthen BASP as an organization in the Latvian Student Union, to organize more educational events, as well as to continue developing relations with other universities.
I would like to draw attention to the fact that every student has unique skills and talents, and I invite you to use this opportunity to become part of the student council of the BA School of Business and Finance, build the future and leave your contribution to the history of our university.
BA School of Business and Finance (BASBF) wishes each BASP board member to develop an outstanding personality, maintain team spirit and collaboration as well as foster dynamism not only in daily work but also in organizing special events. Thank you to the previous BASP board for the excellent collaboration with the BASBF staff. We greatly appreciated your energy, initiative, and ability to self-organize tasks, as well as your openness, willingness to improve, and efforts to find the best solutions in various problem situations to achieve the common goals of the university. Congratulations!
