On October 15, 17, 22 and 24 at the BA School of Business and Finance (BASBF) it will take place an open and free guest lecture series, “Investment Perspectives – from a Hedge Fund Guy”.
Students of the BASBF and other universities, lecturers, graduates, experienced investment professionals and beginners in investment transactions are invited to these lectures.
The lectures will be conducted using the Socratic Method by Gints Robert Berzins (USA).

This four-lecture series is designed for not only those individuals that are new to stock and bond investing, but also seasoned investment professionals who are willing to have their views challenged.
Topics will include:
- Risk – Investors often have it “backwards.”
- Future Returns – Investor expectations vs. reality.
- Investment Psychology – Fear and FOMO and the damage that they can do.
- Just a few numbers – Earnings, EBITDA and P/E ratios
- Investment types – Investment timeframes, international vs. Latvia-only, funds, taxes, individual stocks and bonds.
About the lecturer:
Mr. Berzins brings decades of experience as an investment banker, sell-side analyst, buy-side analyst and portfolio manager. He is a nineteen-year veteran of Los Angeles-based hedge fund Beach Point Capital Management which manages a $15 billion portfolio of bonds, loans, public equity and private equity. Previously he was a Managing Director at Lehman Brothers where he was the first credit analyst at that firm to achieve an MD title. Though the bulk of his career was in New York, he founded in 2010 and thereafter ran Beach Point’s office in London. In his career he has participated in the arranging, buying and selling investments totalling over $100 billion.
Mr. Berzins’ experience is buttressed by an academic perspective. He is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and holds an MBA and a Juris Doctor degree from Boston University (he was admitted to the New York bar). Mr. Berzins divides his time between Latvia and the United States.
