Immigration and visas
Before submitting the documents to BA School of Business and Finance check all the immigration and visa information.
Before considering coming to study in Latvia and to apply for visa and for the residence permit check all the requirements and documents necessary to submit to the embassy of the Republic of Latvia or to send to our institution.

Citizens of EU, EEA and Switzerland:
Citizens of the EU, EEA and Switzerland may enter Latvia without a visa, however they need to apply for a Registration Certificate at the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (OCMA), if the stay in Latvia exceeds 90 days within a 6- month period.
To obtain a Registration Certificate, you have to submit to the OCMA following documents:
- A passport – sized photo (3x4cm)
- A valid travel document recognized in the Republic of Latvia
- A European Health Insurance
- A Letter of Acceptance and Study Agreement (provided by BA School of business and Finance)
- A Reference from Academic Information Centre (AIC) (provided by BA School of Business and Finance)
Within 2 weeks after submitting all the documents your Registration Certificate will be ready.
Citizens of visa – free countries:
List of countries, the citizens of which do not need a visa to enter Latvia.
There are 2 ways to receive a residence permit:
- Apply for a residence permit in Latvia in the OCMA upon arriving to Latvia with a long – stay visa (90 days)
- Students can apply for a residence permit and submit the documents in the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia in their country of residence
- List of the documents required for applying a residence permit:
- Invitation (provided by BA School of business and Finance)
- Residence permit application form
- Passport
- Passport – sized photo (3×4 cm)
- Bank statement – a document confirming the necessary subsistence per 1 year (430 Euro per month)
Bank statement should be with a stamp and a signature of representative person and also a copy of bank card (bank statement is valid for 3 months from the date of issue)
- A guarantee letter proving the place of accommodation in Latvia, if a student stays in a student residence (provided by BA School of Business and Finance)
- Criminal Record certificate issued by a respective institution in your home country. If you have lived outside your home country for at least 12 months or more, you have to get the criminal record certificate from the last residence country (police criminal certificate is valid for 6 months from the date of issue)
- AIC decision (provided by BA School of Business and Finance)
-State fee for examination of a temporary residence permit:
- Within 30 working days: 100 Euro
- Within 10 working days: 200 Euro
- Within 5 working days: 400 Euro

Citizens of other countries who need visa:
If you are a citizen of any other country not indicated the list:
You are required to apply for a visa to enter the Republic of Latvia and a residence permit if your stay exceed 90 days within a 6 – month period.
List of the documents required for applying a residence permit:

Note: Documents for a residence permit should be submitted to the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (OCMA) minimum 1 month prior termination of your 90 days visa – free period.
Extension of Residence Permit:
Extension of a residence permit must be done at least 45 days prior to the existing residence permit expires.
- List of the documents required for extension of a residence permit:
- Invitation documents (provided by BA School of Business and Finance)
- Passport
- Bank statement – a document confirming the necessary subsistence per 1 year (430 Euro per month)
Bank statement should be with a stamp and a signature of representative person and also a copy of bank card (bank statement is valid for 3 months from the date of issue)
- Rent agreement
- Original study agreement
- Guarantee letter (provided by BA School of Business and Finance)
-State fee for extension of a temporary residence permit:
- Within 30 working days: 100 Euro
- Within 10 working days: 200 Euro
- Within 5 working days: 400 Euro
- Within 45 working days: For free only for Master or PhD students
