Internship

A significant element of studies at BA is internship in real working environment outside BA. During the internship the students see the necessity and opportunity to apply the knowledge acquired during the studies in real situations at a workplace. There is a Career Centre at BA. It facilitates the cooperation of BA with soletraders, enterprises as well as Professional organizations registered in Latvia. The cooperation partners of BA are well-known banks in Latvia, enterprises and institutions. BA has signed 79 long-term agreements of cooperation providing internship places. More than 250 organizations offer internship to BA students.

The Career Centre organizes annual event „Career Day”, where the students could meet employers – the representatives of different enterprises representing different sectors of economy, representatives of Latvia financial and state administration institutions and obtain information about internship and career opportunities.

The Career Centre plans, organizes and controls the internship. The annual opinion survey of employers with the aim to assess the level of studentknowledge and skills, their attitude to their responsibilities was carried out. The employers mainly evaluate the knowledge and skills of students as good. In some issues we can observe changes in evaluation. According to the results of the surveys carried out in last years it can be concluded that the employers gave the highest evaluation to the BA students’ attitude to their responsibilities, conscientiousness and the performance of their work. Besides they pointed out that BA internees demonstrate very good computer skills.

There is a tradition in BA – the annual event „Meeting Employers”. The employers met to discuss the trends in labour market and whether the students meet the requirements of the labour market. The aim of the event is fostering cooperation and a dialogue between the employers and BA as well as thanking the employers for successful cooperation. The employers are interested in continuing to offer not only places for internship, but also act as invited lecturers, participate in the improvement of the existing study programmes and the development of new study programmes. Special attention is given to the recommendations of employers concerning the improvement of studies. BA thanks the employers for successful cooperation and participation in organizing internship and the work of Study Programme Council and the implementation of the study programmes.
